Latest update on BabiesJust discovered a new batch of babies this morning, and spent so much time catching them out from my tank.
They are all so tiny. Placed some plants in the tank so that any babies that I didnt manage to catch could at least hide
until I get home this evening to remove them. Counted about 30+ babies. Also, the babies in the hospital tank are showing
signs of improvement, hopefully in a few days they would have recovered fully. Have not gotten around to starting my new project
yet, hopefully I have the time, will keep you guys updated with pictures.

New ProjectCame up with an idea for two new projects which I intend to start soon, fingers crossed again! haha... Will keep
you guys updated here :
(i) I want to create a home spa, nothing fancy, just something which requires minimal upkeep
and where i can soak my feet when i get home after work and enjoy my babies nibbling at them. Thinking of those wooden ponds
about 2 X 3 ft.
(ii) I also intend to set up an additional breeding tank. Probably only a 1.5 X 2 ft tank. Just
experimenting, not sure if it will work. Just want to see if i can replicate the conditions for them to breed. Probably
just put in about 5 fishes and wait for the results.

Hospital Tank!Discovered on monday that some of the babies kept in a 1ft by 1.5 ft tank had come down with some sort of fungus
attack. All my fault, as i had kept 200 babies in such a small tank. I just ran out of space! Talked to my fish
shop guys and they advised me to heat up the water with a heater and add some salt. So I set up a hospital tank with a heater,
UV filter and added salt. Been doing that for two days now, they seem to be getting better, fingers crossed. So learnt my
lesson, went out and bought some tanks and UV Filters, haha..a couple of filters actually, so that I wont ever have
to face this problem again. Hope the poor guys get well soon..

I guess every one have been to the many web sites dedicated to the
Garra Rufa. When I first got interested in these fishes, searching the internet was so so confusing. There were so many pictures
and descriptions of fishes. Different people were claiming their fish to be the Dr. Fish. I got so confused, but with
the proper help from my local fish importer and hours of searching on the internet, I managed to determine that the species
purchased from Germany was indeed the Dr. Fish. There are so many fakes going around, and so many varieties of this fish,
that many look so similar to the real Garra Rufa. One needs to be careful when purchasing. For those who want compare the
different pictures of the various Garras, do check out this website : http://www.loaches.com/species-index/pictorial-species-search-index/garra-species
I
became fascinated with these fishes on my first trip to a Fish Spa in Singapore. Normally, fishes would run away when humans are
around, but with Dr. Fish, once you immerse your hands or feet into the water, you get hundreds of these little fishes
swimming towards you. At first I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant, especially when i watched in horror as the hundreds
of fishes swam towards my feet! At the beginning, it was so ticklish, I was so close to biting my tongue off, but being
a guy, had to act macho in front of my girlfriend and the ladies at the spa!
Breeding Garra Rufa-
From my observations, my Garra have started breeding after approximately 7 - 8 months. My set-up is as follows : A 4 feet
aquarium with coral pieces to stabilize the ph of the water at approximately ph 7. Approximately 30
pieces of Garra, no particular ratio between males and females as I am still not able to 100% distinguish the males from
the females, only that the females have a rounder stomach when they are pregnant. I feed them twice a day, and they just about
eat any food, flakes, pellets, etc. I do water change once a week, approximately 15%. I am told that they are
egg scatterers but till today, I have not seen or noticed any eggs. It might be that they are just too small. I only notice
Baby Garra swimming in my tank. New Babies would appear weekly. I would catch the babies out, to avoid the parents eating
them.
Thanks for visiting.
